On August 25th, Darius had the privilege of joining Chippewa Valley authors, Joe Niese and Jacoby Matott for the very first episode of the Heyde Center for the Art’s brand-new podcast The Living Gallery. In the episode Joe, Jacoby, and Darius discuss their origin stories as authors and why the Chippewa Valley is experiencing a renaissance of creativity and artistic expression. Jacoby describes how illustrating a graphic novel is much like his childhood love of film making. Joe confesses that research is his favorite part of the writing process which serves him well as the Director of the Chippewa Falls Public Library. Darius talks about how his unique and diverse upbringing plays a central role in his approach to storytelling.
The authors also cover the lighter side of their craft – why they were likely the only kids in school who didn’t narrow the margins or increase the font to make page length limits in their essays. They even found themselves talking about how Chelcie Ross (who plays Darius’ grandfather in Rudy) was the GOAT of disgruntled sport character actors.
A big thank you to Jacoby, Joe and host, Scott Montesano, who are not only inspiring people but gracious enough to help promote the upcoming Nine Devines event at the Heyde Center!
